The start of the work year

Monday morning, start of a new work year, the first of the 2000s. Robin and Mike left at 5:30 AM, taking a taxi to the airport for their flight back to Bloomington.

Meanwhile, it was my first day working for Software Technologies Corporation (STC), in Monrovia. Surprisingly, the 26.5 mile drive to Monrovia took just 40 minutes, even though it was rush hour; I got there at 9:15. After filling out forms and going through “orientation” in HR, I was shown to my cubicle, and given some manuals to start reading.
